Pinned tabs
Right-click a tab and choose Pin tab. It shrinks to its icon on the left and stays open after a restart. Ctrl+W does not close a pinned tab; right-click it and choose Unpin tab first.
Search your open tabs
Press Ctrl+Shift+F (or ⋮ › Search tabs...) and type part of a title or address. Use the arrow keys and Enter to jump to a tab, Esc to close. It searches every task.
Tasks: groups of tabs
A task is a separate set of tabs, for example one for work and one for shopping.
- Ctrl+N starts a new task.
- Ctrl+Shift+E or the View Tasks button shows all your tasks, so you can switch, rename or close them.
- Ctrl+] and Ctrl+[ move to the next and previous task.
Split view: two pages side by side
- Press Ctrl+Shift+G , or right-click a tab and choose Open in split view.
- Your current tab goes on the left. On the right you get the tab you right-clicked, or with the shortcut, the tab you used most recently. If there is no other tab, a new tab opens on the right.
- Drag the divider to resize. Use Swap panes or Close split view in the strip above the pages, or press Ctrl+Shift+G again.
Sleeping tabs
Tabs you have not used for 30 minutes go to sleep to save memory. A sleeping tab shows Sleeping to save memory: click to wake; click it and the page loads again.
Tabs never sleep if they are on screen, pinned, playing sound, private, still loading, or have a form you have started filling in.
- Change the time, or turn it off, in Preferences › Sleeping tabs (5 to 720 minutes).
- Put tabs to sleep now: right-click a tab › Put tab to sleep, or ⋮ › Tools › Put other tabs to sleep.
Windows
Ctrl+Shift+N opens a new window and Ctrl+Shift+W closes it. Each window has its own tasks and tabs.
